In 1997 Hollister took over Ameda Egnell. Ameda Egnell, a Swiss company had been producing the "Egnell" breastpump in the United States since 1970. The "Egnell" breastpump was the first electric piston driven breastpump developed specifically for women.

The SMB
The SMB
was developed by Einar Egnell in the 1940's. The SMB set the standard
for safe and effective medical grade breastpumps. The SMB can bee found
in many hospitals world wide.
The SMB is the pump of choice when the baby is not feeding at the breast - either because the baby is not well or the mother is not well.
The SMB, along with its Medela equivalent, is considered the "top of the line." The "Cadillac" of breastpumps.
The SMB is available for rental - you may have to look a bit harder to find one but they are out there. Many mothers choose the Lact-E as it is smaller and lighter.
The Lact-E
The Lact-E
is mechanically the same pump as the SMB. The casing is lighter so
that the Lact-E is more portable than the SMB.
The Lact-E is the pump of choice when the baby is not feeding at the breast - either because the baby is not well or the mother is not well.
The Lact-E allows portability without loosing the benefits of the medical grade pump.
The Lact-E is available for rental - you may have to look at bit harder to find one bit they are our there.
The Elite
The Elite
came on the market in 1994. The Elite offers portability, suction and
vacuum variability.
The Elite is the pump of choice for the mother who is returning to work outside the home who needs to carry her pump with her. The Elite is available with an integrated rechargeable battery if electricity is not readily available.
The Elite is available for rental.
The Purely Yours
The Purely
Yours was designed specifically for working women. It has automatic cycling,
suction and speed control.
The Purely Yours contains a compartment for milk storage and a compartment for storing the kit. The pump comes with the kit and cooling elements.
The Purely Yours can be removed from its case to conserve space. The Purely Yours can be run on electricity or batteries.
The Purely Yours is the pump of choice for the women who has established lactation. It it an economical option to renting.

The One-hand Breastpump is compact enough to fit into your purse. The pump is designed so that by varying the frequency and degree of your squeeze, you can control cycling and suction.
The one hand design allows you to have one hand free while you are pumping so that you can nurse you baby at the other breast, hold a toddler needing a hug, or anyone of the things you may need to do while pumping.
The One-Hand Breastpump is the pump of choice for short term occasional pumping.
